Henry Melton left Seattle still a free agent, returning home for a visit with the Cowboys on Monday, according to a source. The Grapevine product visited the Vikings before going to Seattle.

So far, Melton has not found what he seeks, and several teams, including the Cowboys, remain hopeful of landing him.

The Cowboys are looking for a replacement for defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, who signed with the Commanders last week. Melton played the three-technique for current Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli when Marinelli was defensive coordinator of the Bears. Melton, 27, played only three games last season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2012 playing for Marinelli.

In four seasons, Melton has 15.5 sacks.

Besides Hatcher, the Cowboys lost defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who signed with the Broncos after being released by Dallas. And defensive end Anthony Spencer, who had microfracture knee surgery after playing only 34 plays last season, is visiting the Giants today, according to a source. He aleady has visited the Commanders.

The Cowboys have interest in retaining Spencer. They also have interest in free agent defensive end Jared Allen, if his price tag falls. They lost a chance at defensive end Julius Peppers after he agreed on terms with the Packers on Saturday.

But with some $7 million in salary-cap space, the Cowboys continue to seek deals that make monetary sense.
