After getting everyone to the facility in the ice storm Thursday morning, the Cowboys tried to practice on the fields at their Valley Ranch headquarters.
But it was simply taking too long to clear the ice away to practice.
So the Cowboys moved their practice to the indoor facility at Highland ParkHigh School.
The Cowboys considered the indoor facility at nearby Coppell High School but the one at Highland Park is bigger, allowing them to get more work done, per coach Jason Garrett.
Garrett said the Cowboys had hoped to work outside in the elements to prepare for the conditions for Monday's game at the Chicago Bears.
"Ideally you would like to be out today simulating the elements we are going to be in Monday night," Garrett said. "We just cant get that done. We intended on staying here. The field is ice so you have to get the ice off the field. We couldn't get the field cleared off quickly enough. Rather than wait three or four hours we thought it was best to go to plan b. We have a good alternative."
The Cowboys hope to practice outdoors on Saturday.
Several coaches stayed at the facility Thursday night. And a few players had to be picked up Friday morning because they couldn't make it through the elements.
Garrett said he will let them all go home Friday night and come back in the morning.
“Let’s not overthink this,” he said. “Wake up earlier.”
The Cowboys don't have a practice facility because their's collapsed in 2009. They are moving their headquarters to Frisco in 2016. It will be adjacent to a new domed high school stadium that the Cowboys will use as their indoor facility.
They have moved practice 13 times since their practice facility collapsed, including four times this season. It is the first time they have moved to somewhere other than AT&T Stadium since 2012.
