The Cowboys started the 2014 season out with a win of sorts on Thursday when they won a coin flip with the Baltimore Ravens for the 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
The coin flip was hel at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The Ravens will have the 17th pick in the NFL Draft. The first round will be held Thursday May 8. The two teams will then alternate positions for the remainder of the draft with the Ravens going first in the second round and the Cowboys first in the third round. Both rounds will be hold on Friday May 9. Rounds four through seven will be on Saturday May 10.
The tie-breaking coin flip was necessary because both teams finished last season with 8-8 records and also had the same strength of schedule.
The Cowboys will likely focus on defense for the 16th overall pick. They set a team record for yards allowed for the second straight season.
The list of players picked 16th the last five years include quarteback E.J Manuel by the Buffalo Bills in 2013, defensive end Quenton Coples by the New York Jets in 2012, defensive end Ryan Kerrigan by the Washington Commanders in 2011, defensive end/linebacker Derrick Morgan by the Tennessee Titans in 2010 and defensive end/linebacker Larry English by the San Diego Chargers in 2009.
