It probably was a long shot to begin with, but Jared Allen officially (or almost officially) will not make Dallas his new home. ESPN reports Allen has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks.
Allen visited the Cowboys earlier this week. He had dinner with head coach Jason Garrett on Monday night and spent Tuesday at Valley Ranch before departing.
A source said then that Allen would have to reduce his price before the Cowboys became a player in bidding for his services.
The Cowboys have signed Henry Melton as a replacement for defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, but they still are in need of a replacement for DeMarcus Ware. Ware signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Broncos last week after the Cowboys released him. Defensive end Anthony Spencer is a free agent and remains on the market, with the Cowboys still a possibility.
Allen, though, would have helped offset Ware's departure. He ranks 12th in league history with 128.5 career sacks.
