The Cowboys were unable to get a good evaluation of quarterback Alex Tanney in the 24-6 loss to the Houston Texans because of poor protection.
Tanney completed 17 of 31 passes for 177 yards with an interception. But he was sacked seven times in the game.
He hoped to make enough of an impression to make the final roster as the third quarterback but behind Tony Romo and Kyle Orton.
But Tanney simply had no chance against the Texans defense behind a shoddy backup Cowboys offense line.
"It was hard for us to block them on offense," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "It was hard Alex to get in any kind of rhythm throwing the football. It seemed like they were getting pressure for most of the night. You have to assess how he responds to that. It looked like he kept his composure. He just didn't get in much of a rhythm."
