Jerry Jones was not the only one calling Tony Romo’s performance against the Broncos the best of his career.

Tight end Jason Witten, who knows him better than anyone on the team, did, too.

“In my mind, knowing everything that happened in this game, it was probably the best game of his career,” Witten said. “The way he played and took his shots and bought time, I thought he played really well.”

Romo put up a 140.0 quarterback rating in throwing for 506 yards and five touchdowns, even with the interception that cost the Cowboys the game.

“Nobody hurts more than him. Nobody wants it more than him. The guy has put the whole franchise on his shoulders,” Witten said. “We follow behind him. More than anything, you pat him on the back and say we are going to be better because of this. We did a lot of good things. He made a lot of things happen today that kept us in this game.”

Jones said he told Romo he should be proud of every aspect of the performance.

"He has that, and I’m glad he’s got it for the rest of his life, because very few people have ever made that much difference in a ballgame, and he did," Jones said. "You say well, we didn’t win it, but he put us in shape with his play to win the game."
