Owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys have not increased their the intensity of their recruitment of veteran guard Brian Waters because the latest setback to guard Ron Leary.
Jones said Leary, who will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday, should be back by the season opener. But more to the point, Jones said the team remain interested in a veteran guard because they need one.
Leary's situation hasn't changed that. They felt that way when then went after former Jets guard Brandon Moore last week. The Cowboys still feel that way now in regards to Waters or anyone else they might pursue on the waiver wire.
"It hasn’t changed any urgency we might have had or our situation with Waters one way or another," Jones said. "It’s not that we didn’t have a feel that we had interest in him or with Brandon. We did. So I wouldn’t say it’s changed to any degree.
