The Cowboys have drafted only three quarterbacks since 1991. They took Bill Musgrave with a fourth-round pick in 1991, Quincy Carter with a second-round choice in 2001 and Stephen McGee with a fourth-rounder in 2009.
They won't use a high pick on one this year either, according to Jerry Jones.
The Cowboys insist starting quarterback Tony Romo will return to health, back in time for organized team activities, and they like backup Kyle Orton, who has a year remaining on his contract.
"You’d like to, every spring, pick up a quarterback," Jones said on his weekly radio show on KRLD-FM. "I think the real issue and maybe your question would be: Would you seriously consider using a significant draft pick for a quarterback? That’s early. That’s way too early to do that with the way things are today with my expectation of Tony’s career, which I think will be for several years to come, it’s too early to be drafting a highly ranked or if you will costly quarterback."
The Cowboys should be expected to try to fix their defense in the off-season. They are 31st in the league and already rank as the worst in team history. The Cowboys spent four of seven draft picks on offensive players in 2012, including their top three picks.
