Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was satisfied with the offensive line play Friday against the Oakland Raiders.
Quarterback Tony Romo had pretty time to throw in two series of work and the only sack he took was because of coverage.
Still Jones said the Cowboys remain on the look out for a veteran offensive guard. According to source, former North Texas star Brian Waters, who played with the Chiefs and Patriots, is who they are targeting.
Waters has not played since 2011 but lives in Waxahachie and only want to play at the right price.
Jones wouldn't talk specifically about Waters but said the team needs a veteran because they will two young players starting at center and guard in rookie Travis Frederick and second year man Ron Leary.
Jones believes the Cowboys would be fine with Mackenzy Bernadeau starting at the other guard spot but his injury history has the Cowboys looking for a proven veteran.
"We are going to have a couple of young guys in there," Jones said. "I'm almost certain and then we've got a couple players we think a lot of but they have injury issues. Bernadeau has really been playing well since he has been back and he played well tonight. But if we got an opportunity that can help us in that spot, on veteran basis considering we got some young players, considering we got some injury issues, then I would take a look at it."
Jones called Waters an outstanding player and doesn't seem concerned about the possibility of talking him, or someone like him, out of retirement.
"I would just say that the quality of the people we are talking to if they decide to come play they will play," Jones said. "That's not a concern of mine at all. The fact that they are considering not playing, knowing the quality of the people we are talking to, I respect that. I also respect the fact that if they decide to come, they will come and be a good player for us."
Jones would like a prospective offensive lineman to join the team as soon as possible to develop chemistry with the other players but he doesn't have a deadline.
He said if a player can help the Cowboys he can join the team at any time.
