Micah Pellerin has spent his NFL career on practice squads. He started his career with the Indianapolis Colts, then went to the Green Bay Packers and has stuck with the Dallas Cowboys since joining the team late last winter.

Finally, it's all paid off for Pellerin, who will be on the Cowboys' active roster for Sunday's game against the Vikings. No official roster move has been made yet, but one is coming for the 24-year-old defensive back.

With cornerback Morris Claiborne out for the next two weeks with a hamstring injury, the Cowboys need another cornerback on the team.

"Really excited," Pellerin said. "This is the type of opportunity you want. It's not the ideal situation with Mo going down, but it's an opportunity nonetheless and I'm excited."

Asked about the difficulties of staying focused on the practice squad, Pellerin said: "Anytime you're on the practice squad, your goal isn't to remain on the practice squad. Everybody who was on the practice squad aspires to be a starter, core special teams player, what have you.

"Throughout that process, it's not about worrying about where you're not. It's worrying about how you can improve so when you do get the opportunity, because things happen, you can be prepared."

Pellerin's last game action came in college when he attended Hampton. He played in 44 games, including 28 starts, and was named a first-team All-Mid-Eastern Conference player as a senior. He had a conference-leading 19 pass breakups and tied for second with four interceptions that season.
