It isn't the kind of season Miles Austin is accustomed to having. With only 19 catches for 179 yards and no touchdowns, Austin is on pace for only 23 receptions for 220 yards.

"No season I believe is lost," Austin said Friday. "You’ve got to play the hand you’re dealt and play it to the best of your ability."

Over the past four seasons, since he burst onto the scene as a replacement for an injured Roy Williams against the Chiefs in 2009, Austin has averaged 65 catches for 971 yards and eight touchdowns. He opened this season with 10 catches for 72 yards but has only nine catches for 107 since.

"Obviously, you’ve got to make plays with the opportunities you get, regardless of how many you get," Austin said. "I’m focusing in on that and taking one play at a time, trying my best just as I have been."

He missed five games with a hamstring injury. Since his return three games ago, he has four catches for 54 yards. Tony Romo and Kyle Orton, who played in mop-up duty late Monday night, have targeted him 12 times.

"I dropped a ball last week," Austin said. "I probably could have made a play on the nine [route] when Kyle threw it late in the game. Just not making some of the plays I could, and also at the end of the day, I’m going in, and I’m working hard, as hard as I can, and I’m going to continue to do that. You’ve just got to take it one play at a time."
