Orlando Scandrick knows Victor Cruz. Victor Cruz knows Orlando Scandrick.
"I think we know each other pretty well," Scandrick said. "He knows I’m going to do some things well. I know what he does well. I’m sure he knows some things that he’s done in the past to have success. But I feel like the past two times, two or three times we’ve played against each other, if you take last year’s opener and then the game down at our place and this year’s opener when we’ve been against each other, if you just highlight our matchup, I think it’s been a great matchup. We go at it. He does some things great and I do some things well that he has trouble with."
They have played each other five times, with Cruz catching 25 passes on 46 targets for 451 yards and four touchdowns. Cruz has had a great game -- six catches for 178 yards and a touchdown in a regular-season-ending 2011 game that decided the division title -- and a not-so-good game -- two catches for 23 yards in the second meeting last season.
"Our battles have been pretty good, and there’s been ups and downs," Cruz said in a conference call Wednesday. "He’s gotten the.... Their team has gotten the better of me, the better of us. I think we’ve gone back and forth a couple of times. He’s a good player, man. He’s quick. He’s fast. He’s pretty smart when he reads something he attacks it pretty quickly. So it’s definitely just going to be another classic battle once again."
Scandrick, who has been starting outside, likely will spend more time in the slot this week, facing up against Cruz. It is a matchup he is looking forward to.
" Man, you guys know I’m always out to prove something, so anytime I get a chance to play against a guy that’s of that caliber and a Pro Bowler like that, I relish those moments," Scandrick said. "At the same time, I know it’s going to be a challenge, and I’m embracing it. I’m going to be ready to play."
Scandrick has allowed only 35 receptions on 60 targets for 315 yards and three touchdowns, according to Pro Football Focus. Quarterbacks have a passer rating of only 75.3 against him.
