The Cowboys are still "visiting" with former Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan about a position on their staff, per a source.
If Linehan is hired, look for him to replace offensive coordinator Bill Callahan as the offensive play caller in 2014.
But despite reports about Callahan possibly leaving to become offensive coordinator in Cleveland if Linehan replaces him as the play caller, he remains under contract and will return to the Cowboys in 2014 no what matter what, a source said.
Callahan called plays last season, taking over for coach Jason Garrett who had been the team's play caller since 2006, If Linehan joined the Cowboys he would be the team's third play caller in as many years.
The Cowboys had the league's 16th-ranked offense last season and their 5,461 yards were the fewest by the franchise since 2005.
Linehan is a veteran offensive coordinator, play caller and former head coach who is directed the league's sixth, third and fifth-ranked offenses the last three seasons in Detroit.
He is good friends with Garrett going back to their days with the Miami Dolphins in 2005 when Garrett was the quarterbacks coach and Linehan was the offensive coordinator.
