Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer is on the field Friday and was doing individual drills during the portion of practice open to the media. Spencer took Thursday as a planned day off after working "15 or 16 plays" during Wednesday's practice. It was the first time Spencer had practiced since undergoing surgery on his left knee July 25.

"He's certainly going to do something today," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said before practice. "That was the plan all along to work him on Wednesday in the padded practice and then make sure we dialed him back on Thursday and then see how he felt going into Friday's practice to make our evaluation going into the weekend."

Spencer hasn't had back-to-back practices yet, but he still could be used as a situational player Sunday.

"You would rather have your players practice than not practice, but he hurt his knee early in training camp," Garrett said. "You try to get him back as quickly as possible. He's worked very hard to get himself back, and we feel like this is a good plan for him. He's played a lot of football in his life. He's one of those veteran players who you would give a chance to comeback maybe earlier than a younger player. But we'll just evaluate how he does today. We do think he had a good on Wednesday."

The only player not practicing was linebacker Ernie Sims (groin). Quarterback Tony Romo (ribs), cornerback Mo Claiborne (shoulder) and receiver Dez Bryant (foot) were working as they have all week.
