Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer admits he's frustrated. His "minor" knee surgery has taken far longer for him to heal from than expected.

"I have like a small, little soft cartilage part on the inner side of my knee, so it’s not really stopping the banging of the bone, so it’s going to take a little more time to heal, and we really don’t have time right now," Spencer said Wednesday.

Spencer missed practice Wednesday. He has practiced only twice since undergoing surgery on his left knee July 25. Spencer did make his debut Sunday, playing 34 of 67 snaps.

"I was supposed to just be on the third downs or what not, but third downs weren’t coming fast enough for me, so I decided to get a little extra work," Spencer said. "It paid off for me."

He expects to practice Thursday and play even more Sunday. Spencer, though, said he still is experiencing "a dull pain and a little bit of weakness" in his knee.

Besides Spencer, receiver Dez Bryant (back) and linebacker Ernie Sims (groin) also missed practice. Quarterback Tony Romo (ribs) was a full participant. Defensive end DeMarcus Ware (neck) was limited as was cornerback Morris Claiborne (shoulder).
