Wide receiver Dez Bryant worked on the side as practice started Wednesday for the Cowboys. He wore gray sweatpants and a hoodie as he rehabbed in the 90-degree temperatures.
Coach Jason Garrett said Bryant's back was sore following the spasms that affected him in last week's game in Kansas City but that the team anticipated him "doing something" in practice.
Defensive end Anthony Spencer also was not out for the start of practice, instead riding the exercise bike.
Linebacker Ernie Sims was in full pads, but he worked in rehab on the side with a trainer during the 25 minutes of practice open to reporters.
Linebacker DeMarcus Ware, who had shoulder discomfort in the game against the Chiefs, was practicing.
