Defensive end Anthony Spencer, out almost six weeks since knee surgery, did not go out for practice Wednesday as the Cowboys began getting ready for the season opener. But the team is still hopeful he can get spot work against the Giants on Sunday.
Coach Jason Garrett said the team planned for Spencer to do 'something' in practice but we're unsure of the extent. Spencer did not appear on the field during the first 30 minutes, which is open to reporters.
Running back Lance Dunbar and safety Danny McCray worked in rehab during practice, so it doesn't look like either player is likely for Sunday.
All of the Cowboys' new acquisitions were in practice, including guard Brian Waters, who signed Tuesday night. Waters worked at second-team right guard. The Cowboys continued with a first-team line of Doug Free, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Travis Frederick, Ron Leary and Tyron Smith.
