Sean Payton is going to make time in his schedule for a trip to Canton, Ohio, this weekend.
The Saints head coach and former Cowboys assistant wants to be there for Bill Parcells' induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Payton was an assistant for three years on Parcells' staff with the Cowboys, from 2003 to 2005, before going to New Orleans.
"It was later in my career as an assistant, but it gave me a chance to spend three years with someone who’s very talented,” Payton told New Orleans reporters. He's planning to fly to Ohio following the Saints' Black-White Scrimmage on Saturday. "“It was a lot like going to law school for me."
Payton's Cowboys career also overlapped that of guard Larry Allen, who is also being inducted.
Last year, Payton went to the induction ceremonies for the sake of guard Willie Roaf.
“I think anyone that has had some success in our careers, generally we’ve been fortunate enough to be around some people that have been successful,” Payton said. “That certainly has been the case for me."
