Lance Dunbar had to watch the season opener and not play. It was not something he enjoyed, but he knows it was for his own good.
“It was hard to watch. I wanted to be out there and be part of that,” the second-year Cowboys running back said Monday at Valley Ranch. “It was hard, but I’m glad we did it. I’ll get back this week and be ready to contribute.”
Dunbar has been out since spraining his foot in the third preseason game, at Arizona. He started conditioning work on Monday and is eager to practice Wednesday, he said.
“It’s not stopping me from running,” he said. “I’m going to feel it because I sprained my foot. It ain’t going to be 100 percent. I’m just going to go out there and play.
“I can’t wait. That’s what I’ve been waiting for, to get back out there and help my team.”
Dunbar had eight carries for 45 yards in the preseason, plus six catches for 83 yards, averaging 13.8 yards.
