After beating the December odds – Tony Romo is 12-17 in the month in his career – Romo now can put defy another: He is 1-for-6 in win-or-go-home-games in his career. The Cowboys host the Eagles for the NFC East title next Sunday.
“I know in some ways we’ve gotten hit with the fact of losing the last couple of years in that final game, but I think we’re the only team that keeps getting itself in position to win the NFC East every year,” Romo said. “That’s a credit, that’s also a negative in the fact we didn’t do it the last couple of years. You just have to keep getting yourself there. When your team is doing that, you’re knocking on that door.”
Romo fought through a tight back to engineer a fourth-quarter comeback from nine points down. It was his 20th career fourth-quarter comeback, his second this season and 11th since the start of the 2011 season.
"He’s just a great quarterback," defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said. "I know you guys scrutinize him all the time and talk about him but you know, that’s our quarterback, and he played well tonight. He put this team on his back, and the defense was able to finish at the end."
Romo completed four of six passes for 93 yards and a touchdown on the game-winning drive. It included a 10-yard touchdown pass to DeMarco Murray with 1:08 left that brought the Cowboys back from a 23-14 fourth-quarter deficit.
“He’s amazing, man,” tight end Jason Witten said. “He fights. He has unbelievable will. He is determined. He’s an elite quarterback. I have said that all along. But he is always being criticized. He has taken it and continued to get better and somehow has the mental strength to overcome it, and he made some big plays down the stretch for us.
“Obviously, he will be a big part why we have success last week.”
