Tony Romo changed the play call from a run to a pass with 2:58 remaining, the Cowboys nursing a 36-31 lead and Green Bay down to one timeout. Romo then threw his first interception of the day, giving the Packers field position that they used to score what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown.

"The idea was to run the ball and make them use clock,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “Run it, and then if we have to throw it, throw high percentage passes to keep the clock going and make them use their timeouts. Tony threw a pass on what we call a smoke or a flash, that we have accompanying runs for if he gets a bad look. That’s what happened on the interception, it was a run call that he threw the ball on.”

Romo explained that the Packers had stacked the box, and he saw one-on-one coverage against Miles Austin outside. But Romo got Clay Matthews in his face, flushing him from the pocket, and Romo's pass on the run was intercepted by Sam Shields.

"It's a run call we have," Romo said. "We’ll have it up three to five to six times a game where you will throw the ball because you get a bad look into the run. That’s a time, when I look back now, we should have run the ball because I threw an interception. We shouldn’t ever give them a chance to have the ball. We’ve got to get better. I’ve got to do better than that. It’s tough."
