DeMarcus Ware, held to a tackle assist and a quarterback hurry on Sunday against Green Bay, admits he wonders if he can do more.
“I’m not satisfied, I’m never satisfied. I’m my own worst critic,” he said. “There’s a lot of things I can do better, but then, sometimes you sit back and you think, when you’re giving it 100 percent, what else can you do?”
The veteran defensive end went without a sack Sunday in a game where he promised to be a force. He has two sacks since returning from a quadriceps injury five games ago. They are his only two sacks since Week 4.
He said of his play against the Packers, “I think it’s consistent play, but I’m still not satisfied.”
Ware, part of a group of Cowboys players making their annual visit to the children patients at Medical City of Dallas on Monday, said the visit made it easier to get out of bed following Sunday’s loss.
“At the end of the day, getting out of the bed and being able to get here is a blessing,” he said. “Because some of these kids can’t get out of the bed. They’re struggling for their lives. And sometimes, little nicks and bruises don’t mean anything. It doesn’t even equate to that.”
Ware said the loss, in which the Cowboys gave up 34 points in the second half, was a downer but that there is still hope.
“The thing is, you got to think about where we are, and we still have a chance,” he said. “I feel like God gave us another opportunity to rekindle things and get to where we need to be. And we got to do that. And that’s that spark that we’ve still got, of hey, if you want it, you still can get it. Because I mean, think about it, if we weren’t in this position, it’d be a little bit worse. But now you’ve still got an opportunity to get the job done.”
