If Brian Waters is considering coming out of retirement, his price might have just gone up. The Cowboys could use veteran help at the injury-plagued guard position.
Add Ronald Leary’s name to the list of the injured.
Leary will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday, according to a source. The left guard missed the team’s walk-through practice Wednesday, and an MRI later revealed the bad news.
Leary had moved into the starting lineup after Nate Livings underwent knee surgery, and the Cowboys were counting on Leary to start the season opener against the Giants. That now is in doubt.
Leary's injury is unrelated to the degenerative disorder in his left knee.
The Cowboys have high hopes for Leary and moved him into the starting lineup when Nate Livings went in for knee surgery.
David Arkin replaced Leary on Wednesday.
The Cowboys are thin at the position with Livings, Kevin Kowalski (knee), Ryan Cook (back) and Ray Dominguez (shoulder) out. They tried to sign Brandon Moore last week, but he retired before reporting to camp. The Cowboys are in a holding pattern with Waters, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2011. They offered the Waxahachie resident a contract, but he has yet to commit.
