The Cowboys are still passing more than they run, now that Tony Romo has started playing in the preseason.

But don’t let that fool you, tight end Jason Witten said. Sometimes a run has to be checked out of, and it happened against Arizona last week.

“They did a lot of different looks that kind of dictated otherwise,” Witten said. “Couple of those that we had run plays on, Tony did a great job of hitting Dez when they brought the extra guy in the box. To us, that’s considered a run, but it’s a pass. That’s the right look that you want to get to. He’s a tough match-up out there one-on-one.”

The Cowboys have thrown 90 times and run 70 times in the three preseason games. In the last two games, it is 69 throws and 36 runs.

“You definitely want to have balance, and there is certainly no design to say every time Tony is out there we’re going to throw it,” coach Jason Garrett said. “We want to have balance breaking the huddle and attack defenses a lot of different ways, and it starts with run and pass.”
