Does he have return skillz? Maybe that was what this pick was about...get our own lightning quick guy. Open field moves?

This is the one pick I really disliked. There were a lot of quality guys available, and we took a project. Look back over the last decade, and there's precious few guys like this who ever made much of a long-term impact.
If you read Jerry's PC recap, he said it was about who they thought would be there later, based on who they wanted.

They'd heard that Stanback was high on some other teams boards and thought they needed to get him at that spot rather than waiting, because they didn't think he would be on the board much longer.

Same logic they used in getting Ware over Spears in 2005.

he returned kicks his sophomore year, it wasn't many, and he only averaged around 16 yards per return, but he has the speed and agility to do it quite well in the NFL

I really agree with you.. I dont like this pick and even if he pans out he was still a reach.. we could have traded down or picked him up with our 2nd 4th rounder.. it is nice to have a guy like this though i hope we use him like the jets use brad smith..the guy obviously has a huge arm from the high lights ive seen and hes obviously very fast since hes a sprinter but can he catch the ball??? well find out i guess

No highlights, but here's Roshi's recap of his conference call..

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86734

I went to Washington, and I helped out at WR my freshman yea and returned kicks, and then I moved to Quarterback.

It wasn’t surprising I went in the 4th, but Im very appreciative. I’ll show my dedication to them by performing to the best of my ability.

Skillz? He don't need no stinkin' skillz. Just run fast and try not to run into anyone along the way.

Seriously though, I wouldn't say that Tyson Thompson has much of an open field move either, but he did a pretty good job before his injury.

Some info.........

Wednesday, Stanback ran shirtless, revealing the muscular upper body of a running back and the sleek torso of a wide receiver. It's a hint of the versatility that have led the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars to have Stanback in for private workouts recently. He said two to three teams call him each day. The NFL knows he also has brains -- he graduated in four years from Washington with a degree in American ethnic studies.

Stanback said the Patriots seem most intrigued. All the teams have told him that they could use Stanback on special teams until he develops as an NFL quarterback. A team drafting Stanback may be able to afford to carry just two passers on the roster, knowing it would have a third listed as a wide receiver.

"Everybody likes the athlete, but you have to pay attention to the injury deal," said Tim Ruskell, the Seattle Seahawks president and general manager. "Its split down the middle on whether you should bring him in as a QB or a wide receiver. But there's a lot of buzz on the guy. Hes such a good athlete."

I was not to crazy about the pick at first but the more I think about it, are we trying to get our on version (Trust me I hate to say this) Randle El. I am sure that the offensive brains have already started thinking of ways to scheme him in the offense. Can we say Shaub and Vick. Yes it is a gamble, but it is a gamble that can work. Thay also mentioned like stated b4 that he has run back kicks. They may even consider working him into a punt returner. He has the vision and the speed. So, if this is the onlt questionable decision in this draft. I can live with it.
