Not sure if this is the appropriate forum or not, but....

Anyone else here only have the NFL package only and no other Direct TV programming? If you do, are you getting the shaft like me? $53.99 for 6 payments? I don't have a high def receiver either, so I get crummy reception on top of it all...they said I can buy my own receiver and then tack on another $10/month for the signal of high def!

Direct Tv will not offer a discount on stand alone packages only, where as if you have other programming, they are quick to take of $10 off per month without a sweat. Anyone have a tips???

You probably call Directtv and talk to them about the price. If you are renewing it should be 49.99 not 53.99, at least thats what I am getting charged. Same as last year. Now I have had it for 11 years now, started 99 season and never discontinued, although each year I think of doing it.

And yes, if you take only that package, there is no incentive for them to reduce it. Since either you are going to take NFL ticket, or they have no customer. They cannot offset the revenue lost. But you might still try the DirectTV customer retention number ( I don't have it handy, but you might be able to google it), and say you are thinking of diconnecting the service since it has become too expensive. Maybe they will bite and give you a discount.

I called last week and got 20 bucks off each months off the 49.99. Also I got showtime and starz free for 3 months. I got a female customer service rep on the phone and it was all over. I've been with them for over 10 years so they were happy to give me what I desired.

But you have other programming besides the Ticket only, correct?

It all depends who you talk to. Funny story, my brother (whose name the bills under and hates football(he's a weightlifter)) goes and cancels the Sunday Ticket two weeks ago without asking me and they threw him every possible deal there is. Basically, we have every channel for free for 5 months now. Not knowing he did this, two days later I ordered it and now I have the best of both sides. I can watch the Jets Hard Knocks etc.

Last year, I was having money issues and called up and asked if they could do something for me. They said they could give me 6 payments 34.99 instead of 44.99 I think it was. I was going halfsies(did I spell that right, doubt it) and had to talk to the other person to okay it. The lady said to call back and the deal will be on your file for a week. I call back the next day and get some dude who sounded like he didn't want to be there and I explianed to him what happened and he just say's " Umm, I don't see it on your file do you want to order the NFL Sunday Ticket at 6 payments of 44.99 where you can see up to 14 games a week etc etc" and I was like ***. He was reading a cue card. I basically hung up and called back. When I called back I got Mr. Company man and basically had the same deal so I just asked to talk to the supervisor. I didn't get 6 payments of 34.99 but I did get like 20 bucks off. Point of the story if they offer you something take it then.

That was just one bad experience but I had Sunday Ticket since 99 and I can not say how good Directv has been with giving you free stuff for the most unimportant things that go wrong. For example, my remote has wore out and they give me a new one and 3 months of Cinemax.

Yes it's required that you have at least the basic package which is around $35 per month.

When i lived in my previous house i had only NFL sunday ticket as my programming package. I had Comcast for my regular cable company. I dont know if that changed though. I now have Directv for the entire package. Comcast doesnt have HD in my new city (2 miles from my old house).

I know so much depends on who you talk to when you call.

Just yesterday i called and said i wanted to see what they can do for me since i have Comcast for my Internet service and comcast is offering my a bundle on the tv package also which cut my internet fees in half. I ended up getting a $20 bill credit per month for the next 12 months. I also got the TO GO upgrade removed. In addition for keeping Sunday ticket i got 2 full installments removed. So that basically $100 off sunday ticket. Plus $240 off regular programming. I will call back in a couple of weeks and get the nfl TO GO package put back on for free. (i will say the lady told me it was being left on for free, a lie i know but it should work). I am out of contract with them and this wont impact that. I didnt have to get locked into another 2 year agreement.

So call and see what available.

I was seriously ready to cancel since many of the Cowboys games are on regular tv and these days you can stream the rest.
If you look at a site like Veetle you can probably even stream it in HD like i did for the Hall of Fame game. My fiance wanted to watch Big Brother while the cowboys were on this weekend. So i was feeling nice so i Streamed the first hour of the Game on my laptop in HD while she watched big brother.....ok i admit it. I also like watching big brother.:

They are running a deal where you get 6 months of free cable when you sign up for Sunday Ticket. Just saw a commercial for it a couple of days ago.

I had no idea you could get Sunday Ticket only. I always thought that at least the basic package was a necessity.

It is now, I have had Sunday Ticket only for 12 years now. They will let you keep it if you are Grand Fathered, but you cannot get that package only now.

I have never bargained because of this, of course when I started it was only $99/year and yes I have no high def equipment either, but I'm looking into getting the streaming package through the internet and playing that on my big screen instead of the dish.
