I honestly didn't think Austin ran the wrong route when I watched it and re-watched the play. Plus, I didn't think the throw would've been a good throw had Austin ran the supposed route he was supposed to run.
However, it would be nice if Galloway would at least give some type of idea who the source was in regards to their title like a 'scout' or a 'coach', etc....instead of saying 'somebody who is paid to know.' Truth be told, a local beat writer is paid to know, but I would take a coach's word over a beat writer's word. But the reader has no idea if it was a coach or a beat writer or a TV analyst, etc.
If this is true...and again, when I saw it I thought Austin made the right read and Romo did not...it sort of goes with what I think is the problem with this team and it's not the talent (although the talent at QB has regressed quite a bit). We've got a guy like Bobby Carpenter out there playing in the nickel packages and he shouldn't be on the field, especially when Brooking is the better player who only plays 2 downs. Just a team with very little consequences for poor play and/or constant mistakes.
While I'm not the biggest fan of Mike Tomlin's coaching, I thought it was interesting to see him threaten to possibly cut Rashard Mendenhall for his constant struggles. And after a good game against SD last week, Tomlin responded that he only did it for one game and basically that Mendenhall was not off the hook.
It's silly and stupid to come down hard on players after a small spell of bad play or a having a costly mistake or two, but when it's a consistent act of poor play and mistakes, the hammer should be throw down.
We don't have the hammer in Dallas. And that's why we continue to fail to meet expectations.
