According to the Associated Press, actor Anton Yelchin has died at the age of 27 in a car accident.

According to TMZ, Yelchin was discovered by friends at home around 1 am, after he was late to rehearsal. He had been pinned by his car in his driveway at his San Fernando Valley home. Yelchin’s death was confirmed by his publicist earlier today. Foul play is not suspected.

Yelchin was born in Russia in 1989, and immigrated to the United States as an infant. His first role was on E.R. in 2000, and he had worked as an actor in a number of additional television shows over the following years. He rose to national attention with his role in the film Alpha Dog, before he was cast as Chekov in J.J. Abram’s rebooted Star Trek franchise.

Read he got out of the car still running and in neutral. When he was found, the car was still running. Was such a good actor. Prayers to his family.

Really liked him when he was younger. Thought he and Emile Hirsch would turn into elite A-list actors but they never really broke out.

I began writing something earlier but it got wiped out. My first attempt talked about how Yelchin's vehicle may have been one of the models involved in a recall as a rollaway risk (see link below) and how he will always be fondly remembered by Trek fans. There was something I didn't think of before but seems appropriate now. It's a Denise Crosby quote from the Star Trek:The Next Generation episode, Skin of Evil, that I took the liberty of excerpting and replacing the word sir:

Death is that state in which one only exists in the memory of others; which is why it is not an end. No goodbyes, just good memories. Hailing frequencies closed, Anton.
