Star Trek Into Darkness

One Kirk grew up with a father and the the other did not. That shaped the development of the character. The whole idea is there are supposed to be some differences and still some similarities between the two Kirks.

Agree. I'll be watching it when it when it comes out.

Jeez so much hostility in a thread about Star Trek :lmao:
Star Wars geeks are just as bad. And it gets really bitter when they argue which "universe" is better. I watch for the entertainment value. If it is entertaining, I watch it, if not, well I don't. Avatar got rave reviews a few years ago, I thought it was just a boring rendition of Dances with Wolves set on another planet. The new reboot of Star Trek, with one new movie out, has been enjoyable. I just don't see the point in argueing the merits of what Roddenberry intended versus a reboot by a different writer. You either like it or you don't, lol.

Word for word what I think. I hated Avatar, but if someone else liked it more power to them. I've watched all the Star Trek's minus DS9 (because that show was boring), and for the most part enjoyed all the movies. I am in no way an expert, but I was entertained so I watch, and for a sci-fi movie to be more "real" is kind of weird thing to think about.

People, people.

Star Trek isn't supposed to tear us apart. It's supposed to bring us together.

Personally, I liked the scene where the Enterprise destroys the Star Destroyer with one photon torpedo to the bridge, proving once and for all who is superior. :D

It is the same universe.

Star Wars happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. In Episode I there is a scene in the senate where you see E.T.'s. In E.T., this race of E.T.'s is able to travel from their galaxy to the Milky Way galaxy and make it to Earth. In the future on Earth, eventually the stuff in Star Trek will occur. Hence, the same universe.

Think they are both great in their own way. Explained below. Perfectly!

I think of Kirk flipping open his device and saying beam me up. Then I got the startac flip phone in mid 90s.

For anybody who wants a good giggle about this, "Fanboys" is one film that has some fun with that. Shatner even makes an appearance. Seth Rogen's small but unforgettable role(with really huge teeth) is the epitome of the over-the-top Star Trek fan. AS Elmer Fudd would say, "Wive Wong and Pwosper".:D

Interesting. I never looked that closely.

Star Wars - Yes. There was a connectedness of those 3 movies that was unforced, effortless.

Star Trek - Although bringing Khan into part 2 from tv series was brilliant!!

Khan is the new villain! FYI everything Star Wars>Star Trek
