Pittman4Two's Super Bowl Analyzation
Super Bowl XXXVIIII - The New England Patriots, winners of back-to-back Super Bowls in consecutive seasons by winning two in a row vs. eagles
Overview:
It doesn't get any better than this guys and gals. Sure, the Pro Bowl is also very exciting but the Super Bowl is up there as far as NFL league games go. Some say it's the last game of the season...do or die...mauno e mauno...the winner takes the trophy while the non-winner doesn't get anything. Of course, us Bucs fans wouldn't know what it's like to non-win a Super Bowl...we're 100% and are batting a 1000 in SB games.
I've always liked the rules of the Super Bowl in that there's only one game. I know it's been like this since the 70's, but just wanted to point that out. The de-infinity of it really is striking.
Now to the big game, the Super Bowl as it's always been called. The Patriots come in riding high after being 2-0 in the playoffs. It's good to have some momentum when your team heads in to the Super Bowl. The Eagles, on the other hand, have basically been ahead when time ran out the last couple games. Advantage: Patriots
When the Patriots have the ball...
Let's face it, Tom Brady has been the best QB in the Super Bowl the past couple NFL League seasons. He's calm as a cucumber and as cool as I am when he's under pressure. He'll face an Eagles defense that only does only two things: 1) Defend the Run, and 2) Defend the Pass. If Brady recognizes one or the other of these tendencies, it could be curtains for Emmitt Thomas' defense. With Curtis Dillon at RB, the Patriots, all of the sudden, have a running game that deserves respect. Sure, Antowain Smith was no slouch, but Curtis is the better back of the two. WR's Troy Brown and the two other guys are top notch, superstar wideouts who demand gameplanning from defenses. Wise calls the offensive plays.
On the Eagles defense, Keith Simoneau anchors a unit that has gotten progressively better over the last 10 seasons. Brian Dawkins, the other safety, Eric Allen, and Lito Sheppard makeup the top-drawer secondary. Trotter's charisma off the bench will help keep Simeoneau in the game. Na'il Diggs and another guy play LB also. Jevon Kearse (traded from Tennessee) is the DE. He's pretty good. Advantage: Patriots
When the Eagles play defense...
Look for Jerome McDougle to have a big game Sunday. Corey Simon has been demanding double and triple teams ever since he returned from injury in the NFCCCCG against Atlanta. JR Reed may see some reps at S if Thomas desides to play three safeties.
The Patriots will do their best to keep McNabb and company on the sidelines by playing ball control and winning the TOP (Time of Possession). Since NE wants to keep the game close to the vest, they'll only pass or run the ball. That's it. So it's a pretty simple gameplan to gameplan against if you're the Eagles defensive coaches. Advantage: Eagles
Special Teams
Akers - Eagles
Vinaterry - Patriots
Advantage: Pagles
Summarization
It's been almost a year since the Patriots have been to the Super Bowl. That's a long time in this league, people. Some may lose focus, confidence, what have ya, but not this team...Bellcheck knows his team like a map. He knows the valleys, rivers, and intersections...wherever they may be.
The Eagles, on the flip side, have been to the NFCCCG over and over, so this SB hoopla and propaganda is nothing new to them. That's why I see an upset victory on the horizon.
The Final Score: New England wins 6-9
