Starters needs to play

I understand we scrimmage the starters quite a bit against the Bolts
I'd rather play guys we need go make decisions on this week.
We have talent deep into the roster now a days
What a concept

The offense looked fine against Tampa last season without Dak playing in preseason games or practicing much during camp. The Cowboys were also without Zach game one as well. The preseason is for the young guys fighting to make the team and moving up the depth chart. Two best examples of that are Turpin and Hill.

If I were the coach I'd play my starters a lot in the first preseason game. Because if there are any injuries those guys will have a month to heal. You play your starters this late into the preseason and a high ankle sprain or a hamstring could effect a regular season game.

Just food for thought.
I actually always thought, why not play the starters in the 4th quarter of the last preseason game. At that point the game, closer to the regular season, they'll be going against practice squad type players so they should dominate. That's always been my thought

There is actually very little evidence that playing your known starters in the preseason does any good at all. This practice began when NFL players were part-time. The off season was literally the OFF season. These guys went home and, many of them, completely got away from football. The preseason allowed them to come back and get back into football shape. But the players today live and breathe football all year round. Any rust is knocked off in training camp and practice.

In the modern NFL, I would want no more than 2 preseason games and, if I'm the coach, I'm using that time to make decisions on guys I'm not sure about. I'm not risking my starters to injury to participate in an outdated practice that has shown very little, if any, practical benefits. An arbitrary 3 drives for starters to get ready for the season isn't based on anything practical or quantifiable.

Why play the starters? All the pundits and media say we are sure for losses the first two weeks and by that time Philthy will be
everyone's darling team. Seems we have no running or passing offense and this year is going to be a "Debbie Downer" instead of Debbie
Does Dallas.

Of they didn’t play last game they likely won’t play. But would love to see them have a series or 2. I saw other teams playing there starters. They are worried about injuries..

I have definitely always thought the starters should get some PT in preseason, where/when that happens I don't care. But I do not like the idea of having no real game speed until it's game day.

I'm fine with it. No need to put them in danger of getting injured vs. other team's scrubs. Plus you wouldn't learn any more than what you already have in TC. Last year they had a great run right out of the box, there's no reason I can't be that way this year.

Oh wait, more contenders on our schedule, but that's nothing you could practise in pre season games anyway.

It's a long season, let them "rest" until the first game. At the moment we have other issues, like FINDING A FREAKIN RELIABLE KICKER #*%§nnnnrrrrggggggaaaaaaa!

Ok, had to let that out for a sec.

Starters needs to get about three series worth of drives in the first quarter to get them ready for contact and game speed.
Disagree. None of our starters needs to practice getting hit or tackled beyond what happens at practice. These are starters that are well aware of what game speed looks like. They don't need a reminder.

Especially when some of the key players are new. It's important, imo, that they use the preseason to try to gel together more quickly and understand each other's tendencies more quickly.

I disagree. Playing starters- especially QB and other skill positions players- is a risk not worth taking IMO.

Dak did not take a single snap last year in a ps game and came out on opening night against the Bucs and threw for 400 yds and 3 TDs. The first 6 games of the season last year the offense was outstanding. I just think the calls for starters to get some reps in is very overrated and kind of “old school” thinking that the game has passed by.

And I’m an old man! Sometimes “old school” isn’t relevant anymore.

They should have played in LA....but welcome to the new NFL where starters show up week 2 or 3 of the regular season.

No starters this week except if totally necessary, time to gice the fringe guys a last look and time to get ready for tb.

The time to play starters was last game

play until they move ball/score points - in theory should be 1-2 series max.
