Obviously we snatched Joseph in the second round but, do you think Quinn and company prepare to throw him to the wolves in a starting role? Or do you see the front office making a trade/ sign FA?
Thoughts?

You don't use that pick on Joseph unless he can start. If he's not able to win a starting spot in the worst secondary in the NFL, that doesn't bode well.

+1

i'd definitely have to put Joseph first in a position where he has to dog, scratch, claw and really work to
earn a top 3 CB spot.
same with any rookie and any new vet, i dont want to just hand them a starting job.
They may end up being Ha Ha Clinton Dix like ....

Rookie-ness is always a learning curve in the NFL, he doesn't have a good deal of game experience
but you want to see him compete hard, recover well from mistakes, or being beaten,
and respond to coaching.

Yeah I think it’s kind of insulting to just assume Joseph is a starter based on him being a draft pick. It could happen but I’ve heard nothing to suggest he’s earned that hell training camp hasn’t even started yet.

Where you been at? Ain’t seen you around these parts in a minute....

I been here, just reading mostly.

You know I'm not a huge dak fan, so after we signed him long term I had to come to reality he's here to stay at least until he proves it to be a mistake.

To be real since we are married to him, I truly hope he proves me wrong, just want us to win.

Anyways, how do you feel about Kelvin? And who do you think will surprise us? I actually enjoy your opinions.

Offseason will work this out no one has nay idea yet but the default starters as of now are Diggs, lewis , and brown they are vets on newish deals and will have to be unseated by a rook., that will take a spectacular offseason and doing something in preseason games that say wow make this guy a starter..

if this were 2020 we would be stuck with the vets great thing we have full offseason and real preseason games for rookies to make case..

If Joseph can't beat out Brown or Jordan then he's a wasted pick.

It took just 2 seasons for the Cowboys to jettison their entire starting secondary of Byron Jones, Jeff Heath, Xavier Woods and Chidobe Awuzie. These are the guys that Jordan and Brown couldn't beat out for a starting job. Don't be shocked if Wright takes over the 3rd CB slot almost as quickly.

How much more experience does our secondary veterans have as starters for the Cowboys under Quinn? Same as the rookies. If you are going to start a rookie on defense, wouldn't the best time be now?

5'11 corners don't last very long in Dan Quinn's system. You can call Anthony Brown whatever you want prior to training camp, but when September comes you will be calling him "slot corner". Joseph will be the starter, and if he completely falls apart, they'll sign Richard Sherman.

Our FO plans on Joseph being our CB next to Diggs.
if he wont pan out (which will have a 80% chance) they have no backup plan.

tsk..tsk .. that just shows some of you guys are either expected too much too soon, or you have a tendency to quickly condemn and give up on rookie players way too prematurely.
and when we had Awuzie and Lewis as rookies, I recall the Cowboys signing up vet Nolan Carroll to lessen the burden of pressuring rookies right away,
(albeit Carroll ended up being Darryl Worley like mediocre) ...

Depends. Not much depth at this point. So more players are probably coming.

Joseph make not start right away, but by mid season to the 12th game I think he takes over.
Of course we need to see what transpires in TC and PS games.

With maybe the exception of another QB, I think they are done in FA. Unless someone that they really like gets cut and they can get him for a great deal.

I think as of right now, Brown is the starting outside CB opposite Diggs. And Lewis is probably the starting slot CB. After they paid those two like they did, Joseph and Wright are gonna have to be really, really good to get on the field. And if that happens, I'm good with it. But with those contracts they're gonna need to be a lot better.

I knew we needed 1 starter outside after losing Awuzie, but I found it slightly eye brow raising that they went so CB heavy in the draft. Don't get me wrong upgrades and depth are always welcome, it's just that with these contracts, it'll be tough to let them ride the pine. Maybe they're just looking long term and plan on letting Brown go after '21 and Lewis go after '22.

Current Contracts

Anthony Brown signed a 3 year, $15,500,000 contract with the Dallas Cowboys, including a $4,500,000 signing bonus, $8,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $5,166,667. In 2021, Brown will earn a base salary of $4,250,000, while carrying a cap hit of $5,750,000 and a dead cap value of $4,750,000.

On this defense and this era of the game, there is no time for coddling,, we drafted Joseph to start or it would have been Surtain or Horn to start,, its all within the same premise that we obviously went into this draft seeking a starting CB.
Just so happened that the Panthers and the Broncos might have both done Jerry and this team a very nice favor.

Brown and Diggs start outside. Brown moves inside and Joseph comes in on 3 wr sets.
Brown is such solid depth that most of us undervalue.
This will be such a very intriguing battle in camps,, this DB group will immediately look different than the secondary's that we have been used to seeing.
Dont know if they are any good yet, but they are bigger and faster.. that was always Jimmys equation to success.

Define starter.

As of this moment, Joseph is probably penciled in as the outside CB in the nickel, but I'd imagine it's Brown in 2 CB sets.
Agree, at least for the first 4 games. Never know what role injuries may play. Could be sooner.
