Starting Cornerback Opposite Trevon Diggs
Top 5 Cowboys' position battles heading into OTAs/training camp (thelandryhat.com)

Anthony Brown did a good job playing on the outside last season with Trevon Diggs, but he’s more of a slot cornerback and it would be great if the Cowboys were able to move him back to his natural position.

This then would allow the Cowboys to move either Kelvin Joseph or Nahshon Wright into the spot opposite Diggs. Both showed a lot of promise last season but Joseph was nagged by a groin injury that kept him out most of the season and Wright just couldn’t beat out Brown at the time. Now, with both having a season under their belts, this is going to be a good competition between the two and one that could help solidify the Dallas secondary.

Joseph was coming on late in the season and Wright was a day 2 selection, which suggests they view him as a future starter. Joseph has to get through his legal issues with the league, but wouldn't surprise me in 2023 if both are starters, one outside, one in the nickel. As for this yr, Brown will be used as insurance.

Going into TC, it is Brown's job to keep.
He is another one of the players, that gets undeservingly ragged on.

When Deion was on one side, and Kevin Smith was on the other side, as he was an under rated player being opposite Deion. Then Smith tears an achilles. Larry Brown took over for Smith.
Even Deion said Brown was a lot better than many gave him credit for.

I kind of see the same type of thing now.
However, I am pulling for Joseph as well and Wright to step up and give some great competition. As to whoever gets the starting slot, it means there is some very good depth. And don't forget about Lewis.

Yep, another solid player who will never be appreciated. Especially relative to what he costs vs cap dollars.

If the second year guys can step up, Brown would actually carry a decent return in a trade....but that's not what Jerry does. Need everyone for the SB run because every year is our year.

I was kind of hoping Joseph would take over at some point by year 2. He's a 2nd round pick, right?

I'd keep Brown as backup if someone beat him out. What do you think they can get in a trade?

Agreed.

Don't forget our rookies (both drafted and UDFAs). We currently have some new young talent who possess the physical skills to make a push for a starting CB role if they find a way to do so in training camp and preseason.

Besides Dak and Zeke, I think Anthony Brown is the only other player on the Cowboys from the 2016 draft. Or am I missing someone?

I think a team that expects to contend and loses a starting corner in camp or isn't comfortable with what they have would part with a 3rd/4th.

Capable starter making only 5m who one game aside, had a great year last year.

This would only be IF the two second year guys can step up in addition to Diggs and Lewis.

Bear in mind I like Brown and don't expect either of those two to beat him out. But it's not great use of draft picks to have a 2nd and a 3rd on the bench in year two. Of course there are other factors lingering as well.

I still prefer Lewis starting opposite Diggs. He is better than all the other dudes. AB can play slot cb. KJ might be suspended.

The 2016 Draft brought us the @GORICO Quadruple platinum guarantee. Having a user id named after a guy who ended his career with 3 catches for 45 yards is the most cowboyszone thing ever

I agree almost completely. I fully expect one of those to beat him out. Brown is a decent corner. He's nothing to write home about. If Dallas can't replace this 6th round pick from 2016 with day 2 draft picks, what are we doing? If Brown starts all of 2022, I'd be very worried about anyone else, that couldn't beat him out, taking over.

A great year he didn't have last year. He played well. He basically gave the Raiders the game. He had no business covering Tyreek Hill. That was embarrassing. Brown is a decent, serviceable CB, not much more.

I was also thinking 4th rounder for him in a trade. I'm just not sure he's not worth more to the Cowboys on the roster than a 4th round pick would be. Considering how the Cowboys draft and use 4th round picks. The Cowboys don't do a lot of moving up and down in the early rounds. They just sit and take the sloppy leftovers.
