Starting corners in 26

Good rookie year
Excellent sophomore year.
Clear regression after the injury last season. Barely a 70 pff.

The point is that the FO needs to see more than this sample size before backing up the Brinks truck.

If he can stay healthy, this upcoming season will confirm the 2023 performance or the 2024 performance....I hope it's the former
But by waiting they are costing themselves more money. It’s year 4….they should know by now. They’ve seen his ceiling and it was historic.

They always wait so that's not an issue.

CJ Stroud hit his ceiling in 2023.....but he finished just middle of the pack in 2024.

The FO will be watching Blands upcoming season to confirm

Stroud struggled his sophomore season. That’s typical. Dak did the same. That second year after starting always takes a hit.

And you say they always do as if it’s not a problem. They need to stop doing what they always do because it’s not working.

Wouldn’t shock me if this years first is a corner.

If it’s coupled with moving on from both Diggs and not giving Bland the bag, I can be on board with yet another corner taken high. That should also include with re-investing that cap room in the DLine, but we know that ain’t happening.

They love keeping around the guys the guys they couldn’t win with when they were making nothing.

Like Avon Barksdale, Jerry is like…”I want my corners.”

Just be ahead of it for a damn change. Don’t force yourself into taking a corner in the first next year because you need a starter and expect them to have no growing pains. Have a plan. Never seems as if they do. If it doesn’t work, fine. Just doesn’t seem as if they think beyond the moment except when it comes to saving pennies to sign the guys whose jerseys hang in the gift shop years down the road.

Trevon Diggs will likely go to his grave with a significant number of folks believing he intentionally avoided contact during that George Kittle play. Other folks did not see it that way (link).

That's actually a really nice counter point. I'm open minded enough to look through that and say I'm not sure.

Personally I expect our starting cbs in 26 to be Diggs and Bland.

Sure it’s a year down the road but would it be shocking if neither Diggs or Bland is on the roster? Diggs is coming off his second major injury and reports are the team was unhappy with his rehab. If he has another subpar season I could see them cutting him loose.

As for Bland, he is in the last year of his rookie deal and will want top 5ish money. Is he worth it? Would the Jones’ even consider it?

Just food for thought
Bland absolutely Hoovers - he is beyond bad.

Diggs isn’t elite anymore.

His knee is jacked.

Diggs was a beneficiary of Micah Parsons and our pass rush. If you have a dominant pass rush, you don't need dominant CB's. You can't have it all with the salary cap in place.

You have to understand complimentary football. Which some reason the Jones' after 30+ years, just seem to figure out.

If a CB or CB group over performs because of a top pass rush and they all want to be overpaid then you trade them. Being forced to over pay them, because you had no back up plan, we're too dumb to start negotiating on time or letting them walk for a 5th round comp pick is stupid.

Ain't that the truth. They've failed to do that with the DTs,LBs,RBs QBs,and WRs.

Relying on inexperienced or oft Injured LBs like Liufau and Overshown has bitten them in the ash. It's OK if we had a Patrick Queen back there with them but not an "over the hill" Kendricks....they were exploited.

They do try to stay ahead with the O-linemen, TEs and Edge Rushers so there's that

The major issue is refusing to get true 1st stringers via Free Agency when the draftees don't work out

When they signed Leonard Davis, I specifically recall Stephen saying ‘this is what you have to do when you miss on a draft pick,’ or something to that effect.

I’d love to know what’s changed, and why the media never asks. That’s a fair question…a change in philosophy…they shouldn’t fear for their jobs on that one.

Something radically changed at some point a decade ago that they obviously didn’t work yet they refuse to move away from. Must be bad luck.

If you have legit DT's you can protect your LB's.

Go back and look at Ray Lewis' DT's.
