I just read the Stephen McGee is expected to start at quarterback tomorrow against Miami. While I understand the decision, I'd prefer for Kyle Orton to play the first quarter to give the receivers contending for the final spots a better opportunity to prove their worth.

What players would you like to see out there as starters for this game?

Here's mine

QB Kyle Orton, because he will give the receivers a chance
FB Lawrence Vickers, because I think as a new player he needs more reps in the offense and because he gives the starting RB a better chance of showing what he can do
RB Phillip Tanner, because he's working his way back and could use the playing time (would like to see Felix Jones return at least one kickoff, though, with the first-team return unit intact)
WRs Andre Holmes and Danny Coale, because they are possibly fighting for the final spot at their position
TE James Hanna, because I don't want to risk John Phillips with Jason Witten possibly out for the New York game
OL starting five, because the three interior players (Livings, Costa, Bernadeau) need some time together in live action and because Tyron Smith and Doug Free show they still need to work on their transitions to the other tackle spot

DEs Marcus Spears and Clifton Geathers, because a final spot at end could come down to these two (Tyrone Crawford would also be a good choice)
NT Sean Lissemore, because if Jay Ratliff is going to miss time I'd like to see what Lissemore can do and already know what Josh Brent can do
ILBs Bruce Carter and Dan Connor, because I haven't seen any reason to believe the starting spot next to Sean Lee is settled
OLBs Anthony Spencer and Adrian Hamilton, because Spencer could at least use a series to prep for the season and Dallas needs to give Hamilton every opportunity to work his way onto or off of the roster
CBs Morris Claiborne and Mario Butler, because Claiborne needs the work and the Cowboys should test what exactly they've got in Butler
Ss Barry Church and Mana Silva, because the Cowboys don't have enough healthy safeties to sideline both Church and Gerald Sensabaugh and I believe Sensabaugh is the more fragile of the two.

McGee starting huh? Is shark week already over?

Have we played a decent team yet? We've played well, but it's not exactly been against playoff teams.

Yeah I kinda feel bad for all the receivers being cut when they had McGee and Carpenter throwing to them.

we played who we had to play.

It's really hard to gauge the players' ability when McGee would rather check down passes or run than throw downfield.

Ogletree, Harris and Beasley have benefited from having Romo and, to some extent, Orton throw them the ball.

Of course, even if Orton was out there, Dallas would probably have Ogletree, Harris and Beasley as his receivers, which really proves nothing at this point.

This!

why not start matt johnson and let him prove he is or isn't worth it. i'd like to see him the entire game.

Yes, and Coale as well.

With McGee starting you basically have given up any ability to evaluate your WRs until he's out of the game.

Doesn't he have a hamstring injury?

Orton should play the 1st half to see what these "bubble" receivers have. Kind of unfair to them with McGee/Carp throwing to them, might as well have me throwing up some ducks.

On a different note, I would like to see Mo get more reps at corner, mostly the first half. He needs a bit more because the Giants are right around the corner. He will probably sit though.

Like Risen Star said, he's got a hamstring problem, and unlike the ones sidelining some of the starters, this one appears to be fairly serious.

I remember reading somewhere that he will play.

And it's the opposite hamstring from the one he just recovered from.

To me, Coale and Holmes are the main receivers who need to show what they can do, so I would like to see them start and play most of the game.

Captain checkdown starting??? Good luck picking that 6th receiver.. :lmao2:
