Smith - Williams - Biadasz - McGovern - Collins

Is this confirmed?? I hate that Zack has to miss time due to You-Know-What, but McGovern is entering his third year and really needs the experience if he's someone we want to look at keeping long term, especially if we lose Williams next spring.

Yes. While not ideal, this OL is still better than most of the versions of an OL we put out last year, by virtue of the tackles actually playing. My hope is that McGovern plays to his potential and draft position and makes it easy to move on from Williams.

also still better than roughly 25 other opening day starting offensive lines in the NFL. When we get Zack back we are top three, maybe not in run blocking anymore but certainly in pass protection.

The injury to McGovern really hurt not only in stunting his development, but also because it was 25% of his rookie salary time. Now instead of having 4 years to see if he can become a solid starter (which is about what you can expect for a 3rd round pick) you only have 3. Assuming Martin is out only one game, and Williams plays well enough to stay the starter, McGovern will have to be paid his new contract based on limited experience. Always the possibility some team offers him way more than Dallas can pay or what they feel he's worth, and it's "find another very good guard" all over again.

And that has nothing to do with Jerry's incompetence or McCarthy's coaching or poor draft evaluations by the scouts. Just bad luck.

I hope before I die I see some good luck for my Cowboys...

Eh, I'm comfortable saying top 10 maybe. This OL isn't as dominant either in run or pass as it was through 2016. Still high quality but Leary/Frederick >>>>>>>>>>>>Williams/Biadasz.

This line is good, but not as dominant as it once was.

Unless Martin can test negative 2 times before Thursday Night game he will be a no go. Right now Cowboys have to look to McGovern as the starter, odds of Martin having 2 negative test highly unlikely

I think we'll win the Super Bowl this year or next.

yes please :hammer::thumbup:

Can't see it this year, though stranger things have happened. Too many new kids on the block. Though that was the case (only as to age/experience, for goodness sakes nobody try to say I'm directly comparing the teams, I'm NOT) with the 1992 team, and look what happened. I thought that team was a year away and I was wrong. (Though who knew the Haley pick up would happen? Without him, maybe no SB that year. So I wasn't off base on my thought).

I appreciate your optimism, even if I don't share your opinion totally....

Bucs bring it from all directions. and creative in designed scheme .. there's some concerning inexperience between Biadasz and McGovern, on the road with a likely roaring loud hostile crowd noise,
If we cannot block Bucs rushers and blitzers ... we simply will not win, ...

- The usual slow starts and vs a great balanced Def/Off team like Bucs, and playing on their home turf and hostile crowd,.. is another reason why i'm skeptical about a win in Tampa.
It's not outta the question, but it seems slim chance ,,on paper.
..
- We'd like to involve and have a surprising, productive run game vs the NFL's top ranked run defense - that would do wonders for our chance to win, .but it's a reason why they
are so stout vs run,.

To win Cowboys have to do what Tampa did in the SB - go completely out of character, maybe go to a hurry up offense, pass deep on the first play from scrimmage, fake blitzes but don't come on a blitz. Most of all, limit Tampa's gains - fine to let them catch a 5 yard pass but tackle them there, double Gronk, go to a 5-2 defense.

But most importantly, as soon as possible, dive at Brady's knees or give him a solid hit to the head. Knock him out of the game asap. Take the penalty, have the hitter be a scrub backup you can afford to have be ejected.

Yeah that'll work.

:lmao:

OL is solid, but if Collins is forced to leave, could have serious troubles.

I think our rushing offense is the key to a victory.

Not top 10 without Martin.

Does anyone think CWill or TBad can stand up to Vita? McGovern seems to have some power. Not saying he can but think he has a better shot than the other two.

Not trying to be Debbie Downer but he's likely to either blow the plays up himself or occupy double teams while their LBers feast.

Was there a NFL team that ran the ball successfully vs Bucs last year ?
they lost Vita Vea early and that still didn't slow them with run defense production.

That would a sight to see, ..Oddly that.every time i see McGovern, the dude looks like he has never lifted weights in his whole life.
I cannot ever recall seeing arms as skinny on a interior OG. Don't seem to be any thicker or bigger muscular guns than Blake Jarwin.
