Since 1990, only two teams have ever gone undefeated in the NFC East.

The 1998 Cowboys (10-6, 8-0 division) and the 2004 Eagles (14-2, 6-0 division). The 1997 Giants went 7-0-1. So out of 92 possible team-seasons, only 3 never lost a division game in the past 17 seasons. That's 3.2%.

Doesn't make the way we lost any less annoying, but shows what a rare feat undefeated in the NFC East is, and also what little bearing it has on total sucess, as no super-bowl winning team out of the east has gone undefeated in the east.

It is one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. Although the feat is easier now that it is only a 4 team division as opposed to 5.

Considering the Cardinals were the fifth team, I'm not so sure it wasn't a 4 team division even then.

Still only once in 5 seasons, and will be once in 6 after this year. Not much improvement in odds or rate over the previous 12 seasons.

I think the Cardinals made it more difficult to accomplish. Teams would overlook them or take them for granted.

it's not always is, it's just how competitive the rivalry is between all 4 teams

Well, I wouldn't say they were good for two losses every year, but looking through every Cowboys season (only in 2005 and 2007 did we not play a single game against the Cardinals), only four times were we swept in our two games with them: 1989, 1971, 1962, and 1961. We also lost our single game against them in 1960. Four of those five seasons we were a new franchise or just terrible (or both) - though I'm not sure what happened in 1971.

But in every year but that, we at least split the series. We swept the series 15 times (in 41 years), but also went 1-0-1 in 1966 and 1-0 in the strike-shortened 1982 season.

Our record against them from the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 through the 2001 season is 45-16 (excluding playoffs : ). That's nearly a 74% winning percentage.
