Stat that shows how empty Dallas’ offense numbers are

I was looking at the yards per point stat this morning and Dallas ranks 26th in yards per point. That means a lot of yards are put up but not much production.

In case anyone thinks it’s just because they put up a lot of yards: Baltimore and SF are 1 and 2. They are combining meaningful yards and points

They padded numbers early vs awful teams and then compiled more when down by a lot in games like GB, Jets, Minny, Buffalo and Chicago. They are no where near the best offense. I don’t even see them as a top ten offense.

This is an underrated stat. I suggest looking at the Cowboys opponents. I bet the numbers are reversed. The defense gives up a lot of points for yards gained.

They also have to cover more yards simply because their special teams is so terrible that on average they start further from the end zone than everyone else.

This is a very good point! I haven't looked it up, but on one of the broadcasts, I believe it was mentioned that we had the worst starting field position, or at least near the bottom league wide.

This is an outstanding stat, if you look at the top 10 8 are in the playoffs and if you look at last years stats it hold true the top 5 made the playoffs.

Stats serve two purposes. One, to either lose or win an argument here, and that seldom works, or to try and evaluate a team you haven't seen play.

I've seen the stats used to try and sell the Dallas D as authentic but the eyeball test tells the true story. Can the D be trusted to make the stop when they must or hold onto the lead at the end of the game? The Cowboys haven't had that in two decades but then they haven't been trying to build that.

10 points against the Saints
9 points against the Patriots
9 points, all field goals against the Eagles

Failure in 3 Big games. Some of us never bought into the facade being constructed against deadbeat teams and fully expected this result.

That's why you cant always take stats to face value.

1. Horrible starting position so Dallas has more yards to gain
2. Garbage time yardage

We may rank #1 accorinding to the stats however I dont even think we come close to the top 5.

I’ve put this out there twice but here you go again

Stop sharing it, it's still dumb.

We going to look at the opponents and situations of teams like SF? Because they're not any different.

Dude, chill out. It’s not dumb. It makes a lot of sense. When we were down big we..and Dak got a lot of empty yards. Yards with no points a lot of the time. SF is getting points. But hey continue being board meathead and attacking

The argument is "empty yards" because weak schedule. Go ahead and tell me the gauntlet of defenses that SF has racked up points against. How'd they do against the Washington defense?

It is dumb b/c it ignores context of 31 other teams in the league. More than 20 teams are terrible, the ~10 good ones, rack up yards, points, defensive stats, etc. against all of the bad ones. Dallas isn't unique in that, but they're the only ones consistently punished for it.

That’s not his main point. Part of Sharpes is cupcake but his second argument is we were down big in multiple games where we racked up empty yards. When that’s happening and no points are on the board your average dips big time. If we only led for 80 seconds in 8 games and are abandoning run then we are probably going up and down the field chunking it from behind and getting nothing. Pretty simple

Yes it is his main point, because he's saying against good teams they were behind so they were throwing.

The Cowboys had 213 yards in the first half against the Bills, and only 195 in the second half. Against Minnesota, 229 in the first half and 214 in the second half. Both games were close at half, and if you're keeping track, that's more yardage in the first half than the second. That's the offense racking up meaningless yards how, exactly?

It's a stupid point and isn't worth sharing, because it's exactly the same as every other team in the NFL. Sharpe doesn't know what he's talking about.

Your cherry picking and are basically shrugging to what is causing our issues then. You sure haven’t explained it here because your first response was to name call. Not new. “down by 28 to Packers, Down by14 to vikes, 18 to Jets and 17 to bears, 14 to Bills.” Have you gone through all the NFL teams to see their point differential in losses etc.? If you haven’t you are just throwing crap against a wall and saying “all teams have this” without answering why we are 26th
