When is the last time the Cowboys finished top 10 in takeaways/turnover margin.

I'd be willing to bet it has only happened 1-2 times since 1995.

Yeah, the takeaways/turnover margin has been bad far more often than it's been good.

Romo only had 10 picks last year so that makes sense.

Not really.

Seems like it is a rare occurence for us.

Yes it is on two fronts. We did it last year and still only finished 8-8.

Nothing personal, it's just that these obvious and pointless threads are just that. Cowboys are losing because they turn it over more than the opponents....dah. Ya and they score less than their opponent.

How about a thread discussing WHY our turnover margin is so poor and what can or should be done about it.

My main point wasn't our turnovers dah, it was takeaways, of which we create very few and haven't really for 15 or so years on a consistent basis.

The number of picks we get are horrendous and so are the number of FF's due to hitting the QB.

We only have one real pass rusher in Ware. That's the issue.

Last year.

That takeaways or turnover ratio?

curious when we last finished high in takeaways.

We were eighth in takeaways in 2010, with 30. We also had 30 turnovers and finished even in turnover margin (tied for 13th).

What I would give to have that now...

Creating turnovers is a problem, but not one of the big problems.

Staying healthy, run blocking, route running, decision making (QB and Coach), etc....

According to the NFL, we were 10th at plus-4.

Yes. The site I referenced included playoff games which put Baltimore ahead of us. I have no idea why they would do it that way. Thanks.

But takeaways and points off of them would help cover up some of the other issues like dumb players with mediocre at best leadership.

I think I heard Bears have six pick sixes this year.

We might have to go back a decade to get to six total.

I posted the numbers in too links for this year including each game break down.

Dall is currently -11 in Turnover margin which is a big reason why this team is 3-4. Then add in all the other stuff like penalties and drop passes just pile onto the big elephant in the room.

19 Turn overs to 8 By the opponents

Romo has 15 of the 19 turn overs credit to him 13 int 2 fumbles

The defense has gotten 3 int 5 fumbles

No, but we would have to go back to 2008.

Jenkins in 2008; Newman in 2009; McCann, Lee and Scandrick in 2010 and Newman in 2011.

And that was due to Paul Pasqualoni who managed to get a defense starting Brady, Brooking and Ball to generate 20 turnovers in eight games.

The team only had 35 sacks all season so you don't necessarily need a great pass rush (though it won't hurt).

Creating turnovers is one of the big problems on this team.

Do you think we'd be 3-4 if we forced the same number of turnovers the giants have?

Same time if this team only had 8-10 Turnovers versus 19 do you think they be 3-4
