Whew!! Nice win, we're still in the running.
The Tampa Bay game was one of the funnest I've watched in a while BECAUSE the team played with heart, passion and intensity. That's all I ever ask from my team and if they'll do that, I'll always be willing to let the chips (wins & losses) fall where they may. Two years that stand out in my memory are 90 & 91 when I believe we went 1-15 and 7-9, those teams played with passion/intensity/emotion and you could see improvement from week to week. I felt it was only a matter of time until they were rewarded with success. Thank God that turned out to be the case.
Sure there is plenty to critique about the team after the Tampa game, but even on offense I saw passion and fire from guys like Colombo and of course Barber, who always brings it.
I also think the coaches discovered a little something about some of our rookies. They need to continue to loosen the reigns and let these guys play, make mistakes and get better. Sometimes you can over manage someone to the point where you screw up their ability to perform at all. I remember when I was learning to drive and my Mom & Dad were so nervous they were constantly chirping in my ear to the point where I almost had several wrecks because I was too distracted by their constant chatter. I finally yelled, "get off my ****** back and let me drive!!" They looked at me in shock, quit riding me and low and behold I learned how to drive and did ok. It's good to have an injection of youth, but sometimes you gotta let them learn from their mistakes and just get out there and think for themselves.
Given all the injuries and the importance of this game, I'm very pleased with how they played and obviously the outcome. I would be happy with this team each and every week if they always played with the same heart, passion, emotion & intensity even if we didn't make the playoffs (God forbid). It's the lethargic, emotionless, almost as if they don't even care type of play that makes me and I think many others want to puke.
I sure hope the Cowboys found something yesterday and this will become a trend and not an aberration.
