I posted earlier some specualtion on a Pittsburgh Radio show that Cowher could be interested in the Cowboys job should it become avaliable and a couple people asked where I heard or why Cowher would want to leave Pittsburgh.

This story just hit the official site. Maybe it's just me hoping the two are related but here it is.

I don't see that happening... I just can't see Cowher working for Jones... I sure wouldn't mind it if BP decided to go horse betting in NJ, but the bulging chin, I just can't see wearing the star.

I don't understand why he would want to leave the Steelers to start over and head coach another team (aside from the financial incentive, of course). Is there serious beef between Cowher and the Steelers front office/owner? Why doesn't he just stay in Pittsburgh?

We kind of went over this in the other thread I started but basically the fall out between Cowher and the Steelers front office started after the SB. Cowher did not like the Steelers cost cutting approach and some of his assitants expressed concern that the Steelers were headed for rebuilding more then defending the SB.

Perhaps he sees that our team has tremendous talent on it, and a championship is within range..........that's why, should Parcells decide to leave, we wouldn't have a problem finding a top notch coach, maybe even Jimmy. This team is built, we just need an aggresive coach to take them to the next level.

Cowher has been a Steeler's head coach for more than a decade. He's had plenty of opportunities to jump ship to a better unit, so why now? Either it's strictly for the money or he's having problems with the front office or the story is BS.

I don't think anything about it can be BS. Everything that has been said has come from Bills mouth. The radio story about him possibly being interested in Dallas was specualtion based on info the host had. There is no reason to think him leaving Pittsburgh is BS if he himself said it was a possibility.

I heard on NFL Network that if Cowher leaves the Steelers, he would have to sit out a year due to some thing in his contract.

That actually works out perfectly, beucase Parcells is back next year anyway. I'd like to see Cowher take the reigns when Parcells leaves after next season.

True, he has to sit out or the team he goes to has to forfeit cash and draft picks.

Cowher saw Holmgren, the coach he defeated in the SB, sign for $7 mil per year. The Rooneys aren't paying that for a head coach. period. Before anyone starts saying Cowher will be the coach in Dallas for 2007, please realize that he is under contract with the Steelers through next season. Any team that wants him for 2007, if he resigns, will have to provide the Steelers with compensation. Now, he may take a year off and return in 08, but I can't see him working for Jones.

Why not? I remember people saying that about Parcells.

Well, the Rooneys are the least visible owners in the NFL for one. Plus, Cowher, has no GM in Pittsburgh. Kevin Colbert is the Steelers Director of Football Operations because Cowher had Tom Donahoe the previous director fired. Why? Because he wanted to make the personnel decisions. Colbert's responsibilities are to basically bring in the coffee and donuts for the staff. Cowher has alot of power and I can't see him working for someone like Jerry who has a hand in everything. Also, remember Parcells was 62. He wanted to get back in and time was running out. Cowher is 49 and can pick and choose. Just my opinion.
