We laugh, but there are seriously people out there who want to populate the entire world with their offspring. Cromartie may be one of "those."

The Steelers had Dez in for a visit. Can't see them taking him though. Per Ed Bouchette, the Steelers beat writer its Iupati, Pouncey, or a corner.

Jets are due for a crash and burn this year. You don't add a bunch of knuckleheads without paying for it at some point, as we well know.

Our most successful teams have had all sorts of knucklesheads on them.

I didn't get a call.

I'd have given up my McDonald's coke cup collection.

Pittsburgh will send Ben packing next.:laugh2:

I think that Santonio was the sacrificial lamb so they don't have to take action against Big Ben. They can still claim to be a franchise that doesn't tolerate certain behaviors (within limits, obviously) without jettisoning their most important player.

How much does this change the Draft, Pitt may be looking at Dez Bryant now.

Yes. They will bundle their number 1 with the pick the J - E - T - S gave them and move up and get him.

I agree. While it may not be this year, at some point, if they keep adding these guys, it will come back to bite them.

I'm anti-knucklehead.

So will Holmes after one more drug infraction.

Not quite fair to use just WRs here since the Steelers may use the pick for anyone but I don't have time to put this together for all positions. Here are the 5th round WRs for the last 4 years:

Jonny Knox*
Kenny McKinley
Jarett Dillard
Brooks Foster
Kenny Moore
Matt Slater
Steve Breaston*
Aundrae Allison
David Clowney
Roy Hall
Legedu Naanee*
Mike Hass
Jonathan Orr
Adam Jennings
Jeff Webb
Reggie McNeal

I put a * beside the ones I would consider being close to successful. So 3/16 or 19%. I think there's a much better chance that Holmes avoids getting busted for weed and is a successful WR in the future than a random 5th round pick.

I dunno. 19% might be pretty generious for a guy who openly tweets to the general public "Wake and Bake" after he's already been suspended once for drug violations.

The point is this:
* Holmes is in the last year of his rookie contract and the Steelers were not going pay enough to re-sign him...especially with thier culture and his off field stuff. So the Steelers--who were fed up with him anyway--got the compensatory pick for him one year early.

* The Steelers have two young WRs that they think (one they know for sure) will be good.

* The Jets got a very good player. But he is going to play 12 games at the most this season in regular season and there is no guaranatee whatsoever that the Jets have him next year. So you'd have to run odds on that too.

* The Jets got the better end of the deal...if Homes stays clean and they can re-sign him. But the Steelers did what they felt they had to do.

At least right now, Wade P has better control of his team than Mike T.
What a twist.

Your right. It comes down to this though:

I think a 5th round draft choice is even worth 12 games and finding he won't work out. If I were a Steelers fan, I would rather have Holmes on the field for 12 games than have 1 extra 5th round pick, even if Holmes was gone the next year. Wallace might be able to perform up to Holmes' level. I don't think Sweed can replace Wallace's level of last year. Of course the Steelers did what they think is right. I just think they are wrong. We'll see.

ESPN is reporting they were going to release him if they couldn't trade him. How toxic did they consider him if that's the case?

Cowboy fans should all appreciate what that's worth, given the offseason a year ago and it's positive effect on the team.

They definitely must have considered him toxic to do this. To me it reeks of a move to be able to claim they care about character but not do anything to Ben. I don't really know though. As I said, if I were a Steelers fan, I'd rather have Holmes for 12 games knowing I would get nothing later than to just get a 5th round pick.

I don't think the TO comparison is really the same. Maybe the Steelers are just better at keeping things under wraps, but I've never heard about issues with Holmes in the locker room or on the field. His issues are with the drug policy and in his personal life. Those do have a direct impact on the team with him getting suspended, but I don't view them as issues that really lead to divisions in the locker room.

But Ben so far has not broken the law. If you assume he's innocent, like the law says, then they would have no groud whatsoever to punish him. I do agree he is guilty of very poor judgement.

Holmes on the other hand has broken the NFL law, the team laws, and USA laws....multiple times.
