Steelers receiver Emmanuel Sanders signs Patriots' offer sheet
he NFL restricted free-agent market is active once again.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has signed an offer sheet with the New England Patriots, his agent Jordan Woy confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.
The offer sheet Sanders signed is a one-year, $2.5 million contract, according to a person informed of the terms of the deal. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because the terms weren't to be discussed publicly.
The Steelers have been trying to wiggle their way under the salary cap since before the start of free agency and now will have five days to match the offer or lose Sanders to the Patriots. New England would then send their third-round pick (No. 91 overall) to Pittsburgh, who tendered Sanders at his "original round" level.
The Patriots have a franchise-low five draft picks right now. If Pittsburgh doesn't match the offer sheet to Sanders, the Patriots would have only their first- and second-round picks, along with two seventh-rounders.
The Steelers' tender to Sanders came with a one-year salary offer of $1.323 million.
