I really did like Shazier and he may very well turn out to be a really good player for them... but I am really glad they took him, leaving us to take Martin.
The lines (OL and DL) are where this team needed (needs) to spend its high draft picks. IMO, LB's are not a good position to go in round 1 for a 43 defense. In Pitt's 34, it makes a little more sense to me. The LB's are what makes that scheme go. However, it is DL that makes Marinelli's 43 dominant (or not).
I realize that Shazier was written down on the card on draft day, which means that Marinelli must disagree with my sentiments on first round LB's... but I still say thanks for taking him Pittsburgh. Martin is already looking fantastic and he will impact the run and the passing game. Great pick. I'm not even sure that I'd trade Martin for Donald straight up anymore, and that is saying a LOT for me.
