The Minnesota Vikings and wide receiver Stefon Diggs have agreed to a five-year extension worth $81 million that ties him to the team for the next six seasons, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

The deal, which keeps Diggs with the Vikings through the 2023 season, includes just more than $40 million in guranteed money and will be signed Tuesday, a source told Schefter. General manager Rick Spielman and Diggs are expected to address the media after practice Tuesday afternoon.

Diggs, 24, caught 64 passes for 849 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017. He has 200 receptions for 2,472 yards and 15 touchdowns in 40 career games.

16mil per year on average. #5 on the list now on average per year.

Crap, misspelled his first name.

Wonder if this means they let Barr walk.

Wow, he's super overrated. Never had a 1000 yard season, only caught 64 passes last year, not even the best WR on his team.

Biggest contract at his position (roughly). Just bonkers.

Exactly. For some reason, his name keeps popping up when mentioning the really good WRs in this league. I don't see it from him. Unless they see tons of potential and that is what they are paying for. He's not even as good as Dez.

Really, really think about this... like digest it for a moment: The Minnesota Vikings are paying 1/4 of their capspace to 2 players, more than any team has EVER paid to 2 players at the same time. Neither player is even top 10 at their position.

Also, you could argue neither player was necessary to go 13-3 and NFC last year. Imagine if they didn't do these contracts and went out and got Suh instead. Or Marcus Peters. Or Michael Bennett. Or Jimmy Graham! Wouldn't that offense be crazy! But no... It makes zero sense to me. Each of those aforementioned players went to the real contenders in the NFC, and the Vikings reminded everyone why they're the vikings.

Good points. I do disagree about Jimmy Graham. The more I watch him, the more I think he was just a product of the Saints system and Drew Brees. He isn't garbage, but I don't think he would have made the Vikings offense crazy. He needs the great QB and he will have that in Green Bay.

He scored 9 touchdowns last year in one of the least TE-friendly offenses in the nfl. The Saints May have made him more valuable than he actually is, but he is still a pro bowl caliber TE... in a league with not many of them. He’s gonna put up gaudy stats in GB.

And Diggs won’t.

I know, right? Again, players out there about to become free agents are like, "who's his agent?" Wouldn't surprise me if it's Gurley's agent again. If so, dude is All-Pro on the agent front.

The amount itself isn't the biggest problem, it's how much and how long they have to pay guaranteed money. I like the way Pittsburgh does it. Primarily signing bonus guaranteed, the rest they have to earn.
