Like most personnel departments, they've been hit and miss. Frederick and Tyler Smith were fantastic later-round finds. Mazi and Taco not so much, and the jury is still out on Guyton. Don't know how much of our struggles in the second round are on the personnel department or if it's a matter of Jerry looking at the board and seeing a first-round value there because of injury/character and having to have him.
I think a lot of fans' concept of good drafting looks like is out of touch with reality, but the Joneses make that reality worse with their poor use of free agency. Our draft picks either get thrown in the fire or have to play/make the roster because we simply don't bring in better players. For example, we threw a late-round rookie corner to the wolves when one of our starting corners got hurt, That's setting a player up for failure. Bland's play his rookie year is the exception not the rule for late-rounders and he primarily was limited to the slot that year. Carson was going to have trouble living up to that example, especially on the outside.
