Stephen doesn't expect any changes to the personnel department

With the Jones Boyz at the helm what could go wrong...

McClay won't even interview for real GM jobs.

He's comfortable being Jerry yes man.
I used to think maybe McClay could get it turned around if given the chance. But no one worth their salt would be willing to be a Jones' servant for over 20 years.

Making a change would be like admitting an error in judgement. The Jones boys don't do accountability at any level.

Here's another secret.

All the bad AND good draft picks are Jerry's picks.

McClay is only there to tell him "good job".

Like most personnel departments, they've been hit and miss. Frederick and Tyler Smith were fantastic later-round finds. Mazi and Taco not so much, and the jury is still out on Guyton. Don't know how much of our struggles in the second round are on the personnel department or if it's a matter of Jerry looking at the board and seeing a first-round value there because of injury/character and having to have him.

I think a lot of fans' concept of good drafting looks like is out of touch with reality, but the Joneses make that reality worse with their poor use of free agency. Our draft picks either get thrown in the fire or have to play/make the roster because we simply don't bring in better players. For example, we threw a late-round rookie corner to the wolves when one of our starting corners got hurt, That's setting a player up for failure. Bland's play his rookie year is the exception not the rule for late-rounders and he primarily was limited to the slot that year. Carson was going to have trouble living up to that example, especially on the outside.
The guys you mention are all first or second rounders, not later round picks. You SHOULD be able to get significant contributions from your first and second rounders. No, you HAVE to get contributions from them. It's not an option. Busts there cause issues for years.

You are right about the lack of free agency is dead on though. Every other team uses free agency to their advantage...it's like we never figured it out when free agency became such a big thing in the mid 90's and everyone was taking our talent.

Jerry’s grandson Paxton is now a scout so don’t think they are cutting him. He actually might know more about football than them. He was the influence on Overshown pick.

They do, but every team has them. It's not unique to the Cowboys. We just focus on our busts more because it's our team and because we can't compensate for busts because we don't use free agency.

GM1 and GM2 aren't going any where with the rest of the league begging for mercy.
