Do you think Pickens was the best player available. In all of the NFL?
That is the basis of this argument.
Also. Just because they were active compared to last season doesn’t mean anything. They did nothing last season. So even the bare minimum this season would have been better.
He doesn’t deserve a victory lap for finally doing his job. That’s the problem. We think he deserves credit for doing his job.
Do we give credit to the people who pick up the garbage simply for doing it?
To be clear it’s not an argument on my end and the question leads to a number of subjective answers on multiple fronts. Simple question: does the best player available equal BPA for your team? He may have been the best move for the Cowboys, as I feel WR#2 has been a joke for far too long.
You previously mentioned you would have preferred Milton Williams, and I’d imagine that’s to help plug up the middle of the D-line. Would it matter to you that Williams had 17 less tackles than Mazi last year? Williams turned into a “get the QB” guy due to the behemoths he played next to which made him valuable at contract time, but he’s not doing your dirty work.
As for the off-season (draft included), I think you can compare it to more than just the horrific last season and it holds up very well. Did he finally do his job - yep. And do I give credit to people who do things they should - yep. My kid for example. For years I was busting his stones for better results and it kicked in during his junior year. Should I have looked him dead in in the eye and said, “about f’n time, now prove you can do it again” or should I have commended him and provided encouragement.
For most on this board the opinion of Jerry is based on the sum of his last 30 years and will not be able to be offset by anything he does. I get it, he’s really earned that lack of trust, but sometimes I believe he could bring you guys Josh Allen and you’d complain that it wasn’t Patrick Mahomes.
Good conversation, don, we just view things through a slightly different lens.
