Stephen: I don't see us moving up in the draft but we could move down

Smartest thing Stephen has said for a very long time.
But will they actually move down. If an opportunity is there, the must do it, they need a few more picks in the top 100.
No in line to get a top notch player don’t need extra picks when half don’t make it any ways plus we have 10 picks anyway!

Ask yourself this......Would the Cowboys have won 3 Super Bowls without Emmitt Smith? You know the answer as well as I do. Go get Jeanty.....He's the guy that's gonna get you there....Do whatever it takes....It's that important.

That is not guaranteed.
Hind sight is 20 20

But I understand what you are saying. I did feel Dallas chances greatly improved when they took Emmitt. I was very happy they lucked into to him.
However the entire team was in much better shape talent wise. And the had an elite QB on Aikman. We seen the signs of improvement.

What do they have now that Jeanty can help with.
Cedee and a few OL. That is it. So yes he can help, but he alone is not the missing piece as to be that huge difference maker IMO .

Would the Cowboys have won 3 super bowls without a dominant defense?

Get Jeanty if you want but he in no way helps fix a defense which is a long ways from dominant.

Of course we're trading down. Our philosophy of winning a Super Bowl through the draft alone but never will isn't as successful if we don't pick up an extra reach or two along the way.

Bufford T. Justice (JJ) and Junior Justice (Stephen) will find a way to gut punch us fans yet again. Rinse.....repeat.

Did we win 3 super bowls when we drafted Zeke?

" We will see how things play out and determine whether the prudent thing to do is stand pat or move up or down"

PS. That is the only phrase that should come out of management until the draft is over.

Can’t wait to stock up on backup tight ends and a backup center. I’d rather just sit there and draft Jaxson Dart

This tells me there is no one in the top 11 on their board that they are dying to pick. But there are several players they think will fall to 12 allowing them to move down a little and still get one. Sounds like a good plan. But will anyone want to move up and give Dallas full value for the 12th pick?

This is how it’s done in the NFL.

Lots of teams are putting out the word on their plans to test the waters and start some preliminary negotiations.

Waiting until the draft starts and having a half hour to start a trade from scratch while every other team is working their boards and handling phones it’s crazy
No…it’s not how it’s done. Most GMs have already been on the phone weeks ago to pre-determine what will be possible in different hypothetical scenarios. They talk to each other. I don’t think Jerry does…he just waits for the phone to ring. This is why he has to let the media know what he wants.

If he was really doing it “the way it’s done in the NFL”, he wouldn’t have to tell the media anything

Carter
Hunter
Jeanty
Mcmillen
Graham
Campbell
Membou

I'd take any of these guys. If they are gone I'm trading down. If I could go down 10 spots and get a 2 and still get Burden/Egbuka or Henderson/hampton/Golden I'll take that all day.

I understand the comments both way. My only critique is couldn't he have just repeated "We are always open for business" line without designating which way we'd prefer to go?

Unless Sanders or Dart is sitting there and team wants to jump I just don’t see it happening

From the mothership web site.

Patrik Walker writes about this.
As the reason why to stay put. So Stephen is not giving away any strategy, just draft talk. Every team thinks this way.

"Jones then leaned into the greater probability of an aforementioned potential move down to begin the Brian Schottenheimer roster era, but it sounds more likely the Cowboys stay put where they are and pull the trigger on a player they view as a future megastar. After all, they've got some experience with hitting big when they swing within the immediate post-top 10 window.

" could see a situation where we'd move down," said Jones. "But you also look at that pick, and we've had some good things happen to us just outside of the top 10 with DeMarcus Ware, Micah Parsons and Zack Martin — Hall of Fame-type players — that fall to you, and you just pick them. That very well could be the case in this draft."

For reference, Ware, Parsons and Martin were selected 11th-overall, 12th-overall and 16th-overall, respectively, though the selection of Parsons was preceded by a trade down that sent the 10th-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the 12th-overall pick."
