Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones didn’t get in many words during Monday’s pre-draft press conference at Valley Ranch. His father did the majority of the talking.

On Tuesday, Jones had an opportunity to get a little more in-depth with how the Cowboys are approaching the first round of Thursday’s NFL Draft, including the chances of trading out of the No. 18 spot.

“I don’t think we’ll know that until we see who’s there,” Jones told The Blitz on KZDC-AM 1250 in San Antonio. “I do think it’s very possible that we could [trade] out of that pick depending on who’s there.

“It’s a very unique draft. In the 22 years I’ve been in the league, I don’t think I have ever seen a draft where it lacks the high-powered guys up at the top.”

Jones was referring to the skill players like quarterback, running back and wide receiver on offense and pass rusher and corner on defense.

“There’s a few but not nearly as many as there has been in the past, so it becomes a whole lot more of a crapshoot in terms of what might actually be there,” Jones said. “I think there’s as good a chance that we move out of the pick [as there is] that we stay with it.”

If they could move up a few spots without losing this year's third round pick I would say "Go For It"

A big part of the draft that has little to do with scouts is a teams ability to guess which players other teams are going to draft.

They would really really have to want a player and believe that he won't make it to #18 in order to consider trading up.

I don't see many scenarios where there is a player at #14 that I'm certain won't be available at #18.

If Cooper or Womack are sitting there 12-17 you have to know somebody is looking to take them either with a trade up or the team in that slot.

I agree with Stephen.

If there was ever a year to move down it's this year.

I look at it just how SJ described it. Stay nimble, take the deserving player at 18 if he makes it to you, but by all means drop down some if he's not.
Dallas could use an extra pick or two this year if there's nothing gained by staying put at 18.
