Stephen Jones has always said free agency is 24/7

Free Agency is 24-7?

More like, Jerruh and Fredo treat it like 7-11, where you go when you desperately need something to eat, but you only want to spend two dollars, and you eat up buying nothing but junk food that's horrible for your health

You guys got it all wrong. What he means is that on a scale of 1-24, we take the 7s!!!!!!!!!!

But they're seemingly only worried about the draft and getting comp picks. So in essence free agency is more so like 48 hours and that's it because we build through the draft. It's time for Stephen to use another line! It seems like they over value comp picks, what player did we pick with a comp pick that was really beneficial to our roster?? Please give your thoughts
Stephen Jones is an idiot.

dak was a comp pic if i am remembering correctly
yeah he was, and the problem with comp picks is that they are 4th round and lower?
Hard to get value in the lower rounds very often. It does happen though, purdy (SF) and pacheco @ KC
were both 6th round picks I think.

Right. And I do not think there are any FA's out there left to be considered a big signing.
We have about 8 FA's left, and none of those will get a big enough contract to give us a 3rd and 4th comp pick.

Unless some team overpays for Kendricks or Cooks or even Lance, which all are very doubtful. It would take around $5 million to $6 million per yer.
Byron Jones is a good example. He signed with Miami for 5/82 several years ago (largest for a CB at that time) before gambling was part of revenue and that netted a third.

The formula isn’t made public to my knowledge and has to be based at least somewhat on performance. Sam Darnold signed a small deal with Minn but netted SF a decent pick…they got a third and fourth, not sure who is tied to what.

So yeah maybe if Kendricks signs elsewhere for a year but wins DPOY lol, Dallas could be in line for a third. Better odds of Jerry selling the team.

There is a link on the compensatory web page that explains it pretty well.

It gives AdamJT that used to post on here credit for understanding the formula.
He was always correct in his work on comp picks.

Ah thanks. I’ll check it out. I just don’t get too wrapped up in them. Nice to have, but the player you lost is usually better than who you’ll ever pick. Situation dependent of course.

I’m not even so sure it ought to exist though. Teams lose players by choice, why be given compensation?

I understand the process of it, The NFL wanting teams to have a chance to get better, and not solely rely upon the draft.
All that parity crap talk. As it was not right for players to be with one team their entire career having the teams control that player for life if they wanted to.
They could low ball players and the owners make even more money. The player either eventually accepts the deal or does not play. Therefore could not get paid. As there was no guaranteed money.

Wonder if it was that way again, how cheap would Jerry be according to many fans.

It really is for the better, except it can change teams drastically from year to year. For better or worse. Or stay in mediocre.
